What Are Warehouse AMRs?

As the acronym suggests, warehouse AMRs are autonomous robots capable of complete self-navigation. They are used to transport, store and pick inventory within warehouses and logistics facilities.

Unlike automated guided vehicles (AGVs), which follow a predetermined path, AMRs use a system of sensors, maps and AI for dynamic routing, enabling them to adapt to changing warehouse conditions. AGVs and other warehouse robotics solutions, meanwhile, are capable of detecting obstacles, but will simply stop until the path is clear again.

In this way AMRs can be thought of as smart and adaptable AGVs: they can be given a task, such as transporting a pallet from location A to location B, and will work out the best, most efficient way to do it, while working around obstructions and challenges that may present themselves along the way.
