As part of a broader development and refurbishment programme across its network, Mitre 10 engaged Storepro to deliver customised racking and shelving systems tailored to the diverse needs of each site. The challenge lay in designing solutions that could accommodate a wide range of product types—from bulky timber and landscaping materials to small hardware items—while ensuring ease of access, safety, and compliance with New Zealand’s seismic standards.

Storepro worked closely with Mitre 10’s project and operations teams to design, supply, and install pallet racking and shelving systems that maximised vertical space, improved workflow, and allowed for rapid store rollouts. Each installation was carefully scheduled to meet tight deadlines and minimise disruption to ongoing operations, reflecting the collaborative and solution-driven approach both parties brought to the table.

Project Challenges

The client approached Storepro with a clear goal: As a trusted provider for the wider Mitre 10 group, Storepro was approached to deliver tailored storage solutions for two distinct sites, each presenting its own unique set of challenges. The client required a solution that not only aligned with their operational and health & safety standards but also maximised efficiency within the constraints of older and non-standard facilities. 

• The first key challenge was navigating inefficient storage layouts in two aging existing buildings. These spaces were not originally designed with modern racking systems in mind, which required Storepro to assess, adapt, and engineer solutions that could work within the structural limitations while still supporting Mitre 10’s high-volume storage requirements.
• The second issue involved the limited back-of-house space at one of the retail sites. This area needed to support a significant volume of product flow, yet offered minimal footprint for conventional racking setups. Storepro was tasked with finding innovative ways to optimise every square metre, enabling staff to manage stock effectively without impacting day-to-day operations.
  
• Lastly, the outdoor yard presented its own complexities. The ground surface was unlevel, and the adjacent driveway area needed to remain accessible for forklifts. Ensuring the racking system remained level and structurally sound in this environment required a combination of custom-built base plates, careful site levelling, and strategic racking design to maintain both safety and functionality across variable terrain.
